The first China Medical Health (Indonesia) Brand Exhibition

On the morning of November 28th, the CHEXPO ASEAN 2018 hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, Foreign Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce and the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products was grandly opened at the Jakarta International Exhibition Center in Indonesia.

Wang Liping from the business affairs office of the Chinese embassy in Indonesia, said in his speech that China and Indonesia have conducted fruitful cooperation in many fields and China has been Indonesia’s largest trading partner for many years in a row. The two countries have great cooperation space and potential in the fields of the medical and health, which concerns the welfare of the general public. As the world’s fourth largest country with population and the largest economy in ASEAN, Indonesia has maintained economic growth at a rate of 5% in recent years. The middle class has been constantly expanding, whether consumers, hospitals or research institutes, the demands for medical devices, medical consumables and other fields have grown steadily and the market has continued to expand. Indonesia has a huge market demand for medical products. Most medical devices and medical consumables are dependent on imports. However, after decades of development, China’s medical and health industry has formed a relatively obvious industrial advantage to provide competitive products. Cooperation between the two countries in this field can realize mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. The China Medical Health (Indonesia) Brand Exhibition is a professional exhibition organized by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China complying with the demand of cooperation between the two countries. As the first exhibition hosted by the Ministry of Commerce overseas with the theme of health products and medical products, it fully illustrates the importance attached by the Chinese government and enterprises to Indonesia, and the urgent desire to strengthen cooperation in the medical and health industries between the two countries.

Jia Guoyong, deputy director of the Foreign Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce, said at the opening ceremony that this year marks the fifth anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Indonesia. In the past five years, the high-level association between the two countries have reached a new heat, the development strategy has entered a new stage, pragmatic cooperation has achieved new achievements, humanities communications have opened a new chapter, and international cooperation has reached new heights. The comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and Indonesia has been deepening and has entered a new stage of rapid development. With the further development of the medical and health industry between the two countries, the demand for health of the people of the two continues to increase, and cooperation in the field of medical and health has become a major highlight in bilateral economic and trade relations. The China Medical Health (Indonesia) Brand Exhibition can not only help Indonesian visitors to know and understand Chinese brands, but also help Chinese companies understand Indonesia’s market demand, superior products and services, and promote the communication and cooperation between the two countries in the health field.

In his opening speech, Zhou Hui, president of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products, said that Indonesia is the largest economy in ASEAN and the first country to propose “The Belt and Road” put forward by China. Visionary universal health insurance plan in Indonesia will continue to push forward the booming development of the Indonesian medical industry, bring infinite development chances and further enable Indonesia to play an important role in promoting economic growth in the ASEAN regions. China is the second largest pharmaceutical market in the world, and China, like Indonesia, is continually promoting the improvement of people’s health and well-being. The “Healthy China 2030 Strategy” is pushing forward innovative health solutions to meet the demands of consumers. China and Indonesia will join hands to become a good example of China-ASEAN cooperation in the field of health care.

The exhibition will last for three days and a total of 103 enterprises attend it, including 101 enterprises from 20 provinces / municipalities in China and 2 enterprises from Indonesia, with an area of more than 3000 square meters. The exhibits involve three major themes: traditional Chinese medicines, health care products, medical products and home nursing and care, containing traditional medicines, traditional health products, functional products, organic foods, home rehabilitation and care, maternal and infant products, health care products, medical consumables, diagnostic equipment, laboratory equipment and consumables, etc. The organizers also establish a medical service area in the museum, covering health management, acupuncture and massage, health care and pension, e-commerce and third-party certification services. The visitors can experience the rich and profound Chinese medicine culture at the exhibition site while understanding the exhibition.

Before the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Zhou Hui, president of the China Medical Insurance Chamber of Commerce, and Sugihadi Hadiwinoto, president of the Indonesian Medical Device and Laboratory Equipment Association, in the presence of Indonesian Ambassador to China Zhou Haoli and other Chinese and foreign guests, signed a memorandum of cooperation to promote bilateral medical device trade and strengthen communications and cooperation between the two countries in the medical device industry in the country.

Its pharmaceutical industry has great potential, which has become one of the important driving forces of Indonesia’s economic growth. For China, a country with developed traditional pharmaceutical industry, Indonesia and even Southeast Asia have great market potential for traditional medicine. In addition, markets in Southeast Asia such as Indonesia have rigid demand for medical dressing consumables, and imports are highly dependent. As the largest producer and exporter of medical consumables in the world, China has obvious industrial advantages and strong product competitiveness, which is complementary to the markets of Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia. With the continuous development of China and Indonesia economy and society, the people of the two countries are increasingly eager for health and a better life. It is time to strengthen cooperation and communications for the medical and medical products and the traditional health industry that benefit the health and well-being of the people of the two countries.


With the joint efforts of the two countries, the current relations between China and Indonesia have entered the fast lane of development, among which economic and trade is one of the most active and fruitful areas of cooperation between the two countries. Data show that bilateral trade increased by 28% in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period last year. In the past 10 years, the import and export amount of China-ASEAN medical products has grown steadily year by year, increasing from 2.35 billion US dollars in 2008 to 8.27 billion US dollars in 2017.
